Lesson Belief in the Lordship of Allah
The meaning of belief in Allah's Lordship:
It is the affirmation and firm acknowledgment that Allah Almighty is the Lord of everything, its Possessor, Creator and Provider. He is the giver of life, the bringer of death, the one who brings benefit and the one who bestows harm. He is the one to whom belongs every affair. All good is in His Hands. He is the one who is capable of everything and He has no partner in that. Therefore, it refers to Allah's uniqueness in His actions, and that is by believing in the following:
That Allah alone is the creator of everything in existence and there is no creator but Him, as the Almighty said: {Allah is the Creator of everything} (Al-Zumar: 62). As for the act of creation amongst humans, it is merely a transformation from one state to another, or assembly, etc. It is not true creation: we can neither bring something into existence from nothing, nor bring something to life after death.
And that He is the Sustainer of all creatures, and there is no Provider but Him, as the Almighty said: {And there is no creature on earth except that upon Allah is its provision} (Hud: 6).
He is the Owner of everything. There is no Owner over reality except Him, as He, Glory be to Him, said: {To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is in them} (Al-Ma’idah: 120).
He is the Governor of everything, and there is no governor or manager except for Allah. As the Almighty said: {He governs from the heaven to the earth} (As-Sajdah: 5).
Allah's management vs. human's management
As for a human's management and arrangement of his life and affairs, he is restricted to what is under his control and what he owns and can do. This management may succeed for fail. But the management of the Creator, Glory be to Him, is comprehensive and nothing eludes it. When it is executed, nothing prevents it and nothing opposes it, as the Almighty said: {Unquestionably, to Him belong the creation and the command, blessed is Allah, Lord of the worlds.} (Al-A’raf: 54).
The disbelievers at the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him) affirmed Allah's lordship:
The disbelievers at the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him) affirmed that Allah is the Creator, the Owner, and the Manager. Allah the Almighty said: {And if you asked them, "Who created the heavens and earth?" they would indeed say, "Allah."} (Luqman: 25). But this belief alone did not enter them into the fold of Islam; they did not singularly worship Allah. Instead, they worshiped others alongside Him. Therefore, whoever affirms that Allah is the Lord of the worlds, i.e., their Creator, Owner, and Sustainer through His bounties: must worship Allah alone, directed to Him alone, without partners.
How can it make sense for a person to acknowledge that Allah is the Creator of everything, the Manager of the universe, the Giver of life, and Bringer of death, and then direct some form of worship to others?! This is the most heinous injustice and the greatest of sins. That is why Luqman said to his son while advising and guiding him: {"O my son, do not associate [anything] with Allah. Indeed, association [with Him] is great injustice."} (Luqman: 13).
And when the Prophet, peace be upon him, was asked: What is the biggest sin in the sight of Allah? He said: “To set up rivals unto Allah even though He [alone] created you.” (Bukhari 4207, Muslim 86).
Thus the servant knows with certainty that no creation can escape the decree of Allah Almighty because Allah the Exalted is the Creator of all creation. There is no creator except for Him because He is their Sovereign. He directs them as He wills according to His wisdom. If one realizes that all affairs are in His hands---Glory be to Him---that necessitates that there is no manager of creation except for Him alone. No atom moves or stops except by His permission. If he realizes that there is no sustainer except Allah with complete certainty, then this knowledge bestows tranquility upon his heart. His heart becomes attached to Allah alone, asking Him, being needy of Him, and depending on Him alone in all the affairs of his life.
