Lesson Belief in the Divinity of Allah

Allah, Glorified and Exalted, is the true deity and anything other than Him is void. In this lesson, you will learn about the meaning of the divinity of Allah and its importance.

  • Knowing the meaning of belief in the divinity of Allah
  • Knowing the importance of believing in the divinity of Allah

The meaning of belief in the divinity of Allah:

The absolute belief that Allah the Almighty alone is deserving of all inward and outward forms of worship. Therefore, we single out Allah with all kinds of worship, such as supplication, fear, reliance, seeking help, prayer, zakat, and fasting. There is nothing that is rightfully worshipped other than Allah the Exalted. As Allah the Glorified said: {"Your god is one God. So whoever would hope for the meeting with his Lord - let him do righteous work and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone"} (Al-Kahf:110).

So Allah tells us that there is one God, that is, one deity worthy of worship. Therefore, it is not permissible for one to take another deity other than Allah, and none is worthy of worship except for Him.

{Your God is none other than Allah, beside Whom no god exists. His knowledge encompasses everything.} (Taha: 98).

The importance of belief in the divinity of Allah:

The importance of belief in the divinity of Allah is evident in many aspects:

1. It is the purpose of the creation of the jinn and mankind

They were created only for the worship of Allah alone, Who has no partner, as He said: {And I did not created the jinn and mankind but to worship Me} (Al-Dhariyat: 56).

2. It is the reason for the sending of the messengers and the revelation of the books.

For the purpose of this was to call the creation to the worship of Allah alone and renouncing anything worshiped other than Him. As He said: {And We have sent in every nation a Messenger to worship God and avoid false deities} (An-Nahl: 36).

3. It is the first obligation upon a human being

This was also mentioned in the commandment of the Prophet (peace be upon him) to Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may God be pleased with him) when he sent him to Yemen. He said to Mu'adh: “You are coming to a nation who are amongst the People of the Book. Therefore, let the first thing you call them to be the worship of Allah the Exalted.” (Bukhari 1389, Muslim 19).

4. Belief in divinity is the true meaning of "there is no deity but Allah"

A deity is that which is worshiped. So the meaning of "There is no deity but Allah" is: There is nothing rightfully worshipped other than Allah. Therefore, we worship Him alone, and we do not direct any type of worship to others.

5. Belief in divinity is the logical result of believing that Allah is the Creator, the Owner, and the Manager.
